Where I Came From
Bio  Susan Siefer


Susan Siefer is a painter and textile based artist working out of her studio in Waltham MA. She 
received her BA in Fine Art and her MFA in Textile Design and Weaving at Wayne University in Detroit Michigan.  Susan began her art career as a sculptural weaver. Upon moving to Boston from Detroit,  Susan had a 25 year career as a decorative painter. Using gold leaf, Italian plasters, textures and patterns on walls and ceilings she had a large following of residential and corporate clients. She resumed her painting and textile art studio practice in 2015 and is a practitioner of gold leaf restoration. Susan’s current work has been shown in the Boston and New England areaincluding Boston City Hall, Paula Estes Gallery, Danforth Museum, Galatea Gallery, FountainStreet Gallery, Piano Craft Gallery, Cambridge Art Association, Hess Gallery, Mosesian Gallery, and in private and corporate collections. She was an early recipient of a Ford Foundation Grant.

Susan’s work reflects her several art trips to Morocco, included a residency at Green Olive Arts in Tetouan, Maroc during the summer of 2019. Her work has been published in Fiber Art Now, Artscope Magazine, Boston Magazine and Detroit Free Press. 

Susan works out of her studio at Waltham Mills in Waltham MA. She opens her studio every November for Waltham Open Studios. She has one son and two young adult granddaughters.She has run five marathons which is a testimony to her perseverance and enjoys other outside activities. 

Susan is a member of National Association of Women, Cambridge Art Association and River Street Artists and a board member of NAWAMA.
